Meaningful Golf In February

Meaningful Golf In February

I would like to share this with everyone…..The Players Championship is in four weeks!

This seems so weird to say, usually we have to wait until May, however with the new Tour schedule in effect starting this year it has now been moved up to March. I have to say, I am a big fan of the schedule change, we haven’t even arrived at the tournament but I am already excited about it.

Not to mention these next four weeks on Tour is a golfers dream. This week, the first WGC event of the year takes place, followed by the Honda Classic, Arnold Palmer Invitational, and finally The Players. Not bad for a four week stretch.

Oh yeah, can’t forget about the Valspar following The Players!! Although I have to admit, I was glued to the TV at last years tournament as this was the first sign of the old Tiger.

This is what golf needed, people to actually watch the sport NOW and not have to wait until April for the Masters. Sure, none of the four tournaments listed above are majors, but they certainly always have that major feel. In the past, golfers would use the Honda Classic and the Arnold Palmer Invitational as tune ups prior to the Masters, I wonder if that same strategy will be used this year with the schedule being a little different.

What I hope doesn’t happen is golfers deciding to skip The Players or treat it as a tune up tournament ahead of the Masters. Phil Mickelson has already stated that skipping the tournament is a “possibility”.

I also wonder how Tiger plays during this four week stretch, considering he is playing this week, I wouldn’t be surprised if he decided to skip the Honda Classic and get some rest.

Anyways, just thought I would check in with everyone before we kick off this nice four week stretch!

What are your thoughts on this four week stretch? Do you think players would actually skip The Players? Let’s discuss in the comments section below!

  1. Sebastien, I think players could skip. The condensed schedule leaves little time for rest and these guys time their seasons around the majors. Skipping to get rest is not unprecedented. We shall see shortly. Enjoy the run!

    1. Brian,

Great timing. Tiger just said that he will skip next weeks Honda Classic, wouldn’t be surprised to see others go the same route.
