Betting On The Course Can Make You A Better Golfer

Was a bit skeptical as whether I should even post this, but whatever let’s roll with it and see how it goes.

First off, I am in no way suggesting you should spend all day at the course and attempt to wager every golfer you see, and I am in no way encouraging you to make a living doing this. However, I am a firm believer that betting on sports whether its through fantasy leagues, games, or on the course gives people the opportunity to have another source of income.

So, in case you couldn’t tell by the title, betting on the course can make you a better golfer. There, I said it, and now I will prove it.

First off, its human that when there is money involved we tend to be a bit more interested in certain things. Should money be your ONLY motivation? Absolutely not…but I can get into that another time.

When talking about money on the golf course, we are motivated by it when there are wagers made as we hope to win some extra money….it motivates us a little more to play our best. This wager will not make or break your financial situation, but it can certainly make or break your round.

Myself, I enjoy playing golf with people who are good if not better than me, it’s a challenge and it will certainly bring out the best in me. If I go to the course with a few friends and just mess around, sure it can be fun but I guarantee you that I will not play my best, there is no need to.

Let’s face it, when there is money to be made you will do anything to try and get it, and the same applies to golf. No matter how bad you think you are or how much you feel like quitting during a round, if I wave a $20 bill around that goes to the winner of the hole, you would do whatever it took to get that bill.

As soon as money is involved, for some reason we tend to not only try but also play better, kind of like when we are playing against someone good.

Do I expect someone who is playing their first ever round to go out there and put their life savings on the line against their opponent? No, of course not. But if you are playing with a few friends or with a playing partner and are feeling good about your game, I would definitely propose the idea to them.

There are many different wagers/betting games to be made on the course such as by round, hole, points system, etc.

If you are a bit tight on cash, I’d go with by hole wager as chances are this will even out by the end of the round. If you are feeling confident, then I’d go with by round as the payout will be much better (depending on what you and your opponents agree on).

I have golfed with total strangers who went from playing like John Daly to Tiger Woods once we got to the 18th hole and decided to put a wager on the final hole, it’s fascinating that when money is involved we suddenly find out how good we can really be.

Even if it’s for a few bucks it adds a bit of fun into your round of golf, no one wants to be playing a round where you can’t wait until it ends. Besides, if you decide not to play during twilight hours, then this is a good way to make back some of the money that you had forked out for the round.

I encourage you to propose the offer to your playing partners next time, I also encourage you to bet smart and responsibly. Good luck!
